Sport & Healthy Lifestyle
In order to encourage healthy lifestyle we include modules in our training programme that cover sports, nutrition and personal hygiene. The aim here is to help children and young people have improved health that in turn can positively influence their performance at school. We also plan to work with other community organisations and groups to organise local sports competitions. We can use this to promote community cohesion and reduce the unhealthy territorial rivalries that exist among young people in parts of the city.
Peer Mentors
As part of the project we operate a peer-mentoring scheme, where students that have completed the programme, serve as mentors for their peers. We strive to ensure that while they are at the Academy, peer mentors and students have the opportunity to work with role models from different walks of life e.g. the world of entertainment, business and media.
Graduation Ceremonies
We hold an official graduation ceremony to honor the students that graduate at the end of the academic year. We issue certificates and showcase some of the students¹ work produced in the course of the year. It helps to bring home to the young people a sense of achievement. In addition, it is an opportunity for parents and members of the community to celebrate the talents of their youths.

Barriers

Heartbeat Academy aims to continue to remove barriers between young people and their dreams. We also aim to help redress the neglect as well as negative stereotyping that many have suffered at the hands of mainstream education and media.
